The practice-based doctorates at Golden Gate University (San Francisco) all run 100% online, are designed for people in work, are WSCUC-accredited in the US and appear on Taiwan's Ministry of Education reference roster of foreign universities. What differs is the specialization and the entry requirements:
The classic practice-based business doctorate. Choose from four specializations: finance, leadership, business analytics and marketing. The dissertation has three possible forms: a traditional thesis, a practitioner book, or a doctoral-level business plan with a prototype. Suits executives with a clear specialty who want to go deep in it.
Sits between business and technology. The foundation is business research method; the specialization modules cover machine learning, deep learning, applied generative AI, AI project design and responsible AI. Suits executives who need to bring AI into decisions and organizations rather than build models themselves.
For those without a master's, this route delivers both the MBA and the DBA. You complete the MBA first (36 credits, including a specialization), then move on to the DBA stage.⚠ You must complete all MBA graduation requirements with a GPA of 3.0 and pass the bridge assessment and qualifying examination; failing any of these ends the DBA place, with no refund of fees already paid.
The only purely AI-focused doctorate of the four routes. The curriculum runs from neural networks and deep learning through to deploying and governing AI systems, and the output is a Dissertation in Practice plus a Governance Practicum. Suits CIOs and CTOs, AI practitioners and senior engineers.
